Programming Robotics - Spatial Reasoning & Conversions

Video/Activity Description

Mission to Mars - NASA has hired you for a very important mission.  There have been reports of possible life-forms living in certain rocks on Mars.  With the unknown surface conditions on Mars, NASA is needing you to program a robot to retrieve a specific rock and bring it back to Earth.  Your students will develop a map of the surface of Mars plotting craters, cliff lines, and even aliens that have been spotted!  Next, they will have to design a path to avoid these objects to reach the rock.  Once they are confident in their path they will have to convert their distances and program them into their robots.  Finally, they will test run their robots on the designed course and see if they can retrieve the rock!  This promises to be an exciting and educational activity.
